Scouting Out the Competition - by Miranda

So, it was brought to my attention that there was another book and coffee place just up the street, and that they were open for 24 hours! Competition! Already! So I had to go scout them out. Place called Fireside Books and Coffee, in Englewood, Colorado.

Nice enough looking place.

I played it cool, not letting on that I was there as a fellow coffee shop/book store owner. Their baked goods and coffee looked great, and that was a bad thing.

Until I realized THIS PLACE IS FREAKIN HUGE!

I don't know why Wendy ever thought this place would be competition. They don't have any pixie sized ANYTHING. Duh. But I still wanted to look around.

We'll never have to put up signs like this. Shoplifters in C&M Books and Coffee will be immediately killed and ground up in the garbage disposal. But I think they frown on that in the human world. Pity.

They have a great selection of books. Too big for pixies, but just right for human types.

Their fireplace is pretty. Heck, their whole place is really nice. Though, as I look at these pictures I feel like it's "Where's Waldo: Miranda Edition". This place is GIGANTIC. Well, when you're 4.5 inches tall it is.

Nice atmosphere. Maybe we need a grandfather clock or something.

One huge piano, but it's really cool. How many coffee shops do you know of with a baby grand?

My coffee shop doesn't have room for one, or else you would now know of two.

They have a frequent book buyer card thingy. Which is an idea I am totally stealing borrowing. And that's when I decided it was time to reveal that I was a fellow coffee shop/book store owner and see if they had any advice.

First, I met the incredibly cool Cassidy. He's kind of the Fireside Books and Coffee sage. He's there a lot, and you can ask him all kinds of questions. He's working on a degree in Medieval Metaphysics, or should be, anyway.

He also has nifty video game tattoos like this one, which is the Mega Man power bar (yeah, I'm totally not cool enough to have just known that. I had to ask. But he was really nice about it. As if you would've known.)

The owner is this really nice guy named Sam. He was very kind and we talked about his point of sale software, and that kind of technical stuff.

We decided that he can have all the human customers that won't fit in my shop, and I'll take care of all the pixie customers that are just too tiny for his shop.

So you human types wanting coffee and books, check out Fireside Books and Coffee. They're open 24 hours, 365 days, they're friendly and awesome, and you're just the right size to fit in their shop.

Mouse in the Coffee House

Miranda: Hi guys. Thanks for coming down.

Clara: We rushed over as soon as I got your call, Miri. What's up?

Miranda: We've got a problem and we need to figure out what to do about it.

Clara: What's wrong? You sounded so upset on the phone.

Miranda: There are these two MICE! And they're trashing the store. They've got their fuzzy little paws in everything and they're wrecking it all.

Clara: Mice... I see. Do go on.

Miranda: At first, I didn't think it was going to be a problem and that they'd probably get bored and go away on their own.

Miranda: But now they're trashing my business and I feel like I'm always tripping over them. I swear, every time I turn around, there's one of them! Freakin' mice! Something has to be done!

Clara: Oh, really? Trashing YOUR business are we? "Freakin mice"? Hmm?

Miranda: What? No! NO! I don't mean you two! These are mice! Like little cheese eating, wall chewing mice! Not like you guys!

Clara: Oh, you're right. We hate cheese.

Miranda: GAH! No, not like that.

Miranda: Oh Clara, you know I don't mean you. These are mice like Pluto. You know like Pluto and Goofy. They're Pluto and you're Goofy!

Clara: Did you really just call me "Goofy"?

Miranda: Oh for crying out loud.

Miranda: No... I mean like, they were both dogs, but Goofy talked and Pluto couldn't talk, 'cause he was just a dog and you're a mouse but you're not... oh man. I give up.

Clara: I'm just messing with ya. I know what you mean. We've got mice!

Beatrice: Hey, Clara. She's not kidding about the destruction. It's a mess up here. You better come look.

Clara: Oh my gosh!!! This is terrible

Clara: Devika is going to completely flip out when she sees that they've attacked her "book club" section.

Beatrice: I'll start getting it cleaned up right away.

Clara: Miri, what are we going to do?

Miranda: Well, we've got a couple options. We just need to decide what we want to do. We should probably consult Lon too.

Clara: I'll call him right now!

Two Is Trouble

Miranda: And it's another gloomy, rainy day for the Wylde Bunch. Fabulous.

Miranda: Hello, creepy "I'm being watched" feeling.

Miranda: Hey! Now there's two of them!

*scurry sounds upstairs*

Miranda: What could they want upstairs, in my domain?

Miranda: MY domain! HEY!

Miranda: All right you, rodents. Where are you? Oh... oh no!

Facebook Fan Drawing - WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT!

Miranda: Hey Everyone! So, we finally got 25 "likes" on our C&M Books and Coffee Facebook page, and that means a drawing for spiffy prizes!

Devika: Yaay!

Miranda: My lovely assistant, Devika, will be randomly drawing one of the index cards I've written everyone's names on and folded in half.

Devika: Got it!

Miranda: Ooooh... the suspense! Who will it be? No peeking, Devika!

Devika: I'm not peeking. Promise. Got one!

Miranda: Hand it to me please.

Devika: We need a drum roll!

Miranda: And the winner is Tiffany B!!!

Devika: YAAY!!!

Miranda: Vee, do you know Tiffany?

Devika: Nah, but she "liked" us, right? So she must be great! Yaay, Tiffany! OH! I'll get the prize!

Miranda: Tiffany, you get to choose one of two super spiffy prizes. Prize number one is a human sized "C&M Books and Coffee" mug from Cafe Press. I don't have one to show you, 'cause we just decided today to do them. But you can see a picture of it here. - Cafe Press - C and M Books and Coffee by clicking on the mug. You get it.

Miranda: OR, prize number two is....

Devika: Coming! I got it!

Miranda: Your second option is this lovely set of tiny doll sized Tolkien books. These are all brand new and not used. Promise. They come in this lovely basket, because I haven't ordered gift boxes, yet.

Devika: And you get this lovely tiny sized travel coffee! Yummy!

Miranda: Wow, move over Vanna White!

Devika: Oh, was I not in the frame?

Miranda: Thank you to everyone who "liked" our page, and if you haven't yet, please do. We'll do another one of these drawings once 50 people "like" us. And we'll have more spiffy stuff to give away by then.

Miranda: Though, next time we'll be doing this with a random number generator and not by drawing Vee. Cute as she is, this was a pain in the neck. Tiffany, I'll be sending you an email. Everyone else, thanks for joining us! Now go do something! It's a Saturday night, for crying out loud!
