A Place of One's Own

I've been spending a bunch of my evenings crocheting with Wendy. I haven't crocheted in a while and I really enjoy it.

So we set up a little place for me on her desk, so we could watch Netflix and crochet. It's been pretty nice. But we crochet pretty late into the night sometimes, and I didn't want to drive all the way back to my house in the middle of the night (her dogs chase my Jeep, for one thing, and it's a long drive to the living room where my house is, even when you're not being chased by dogs).

So we moved a little day bed on her nightstand, so I wouldn't have to drive all the way home, but wouldn't have to sleep in my La-Z-Boy either (it gets a little hard on the back after a couple nights.)

It's pretty nice except...

... it's right next to the alarm clock, which goes off at 6:15 a.m. and is loud.

Really, REALLY loud.

So, the other day, when I was at Norm's I saw this little wall hanging room box thingy, and realized it was the perfect solution.

They're not very expensive, so I brought home one of the blank ones to decorate myself.

And we've got tons of scrap wallpaper and stuff left over from other projects, so we might be able to do this on the cheap, but still make it nice.

Picking out just the right wall paper for each room is hard. But I think I have it all figured out.

I'll let you know how it comes along! Wish us luck!

I love my day bed, but I HATE that alarm clock.

  1. So cute! I bet you will love your new room away from home! I often have a doll sleeping on my bedside table...near the alarm that goes off at 6:00am!

  2. Hey Tracy! Thanks! I think it's going to be awesome. Hopefully. Wendy isn't exactly the master builder that C.J. and C. Pender are. But I'd sleep on a bookshelf at this point, just to get away from that stupid alarm clock. Ugh!

  3. Hi Miranda! That photo of you putting the pillow over your head to muffle the alarm clock sound is CLASSIC! Love it! Can't wait to see what you do with the new house--it looks cozy and cute. That Lazyboy rocks too--you have the coolest stuff! xo Jennifer

  4. Wow, I love that little make-do house! Your furniture will look so adorable in it.
And when the big house is all finished you can use this as a guest house for friends!

  5. Thanks, Plushpussycat. It was not a fun morning. Ugh. Soft pillow, but not especially soundproof. I'm glad you liked it, though. :) And yeah, I can't find another La-z-boy like mine anywhere! I feel really lucky to have it! It's very comfy.

Hey Bama! Thanks! I think it's going to work out well. And yeah! I like the guest house idea! Great idea!!! Thank you!

  6. Miri,

That little house looks like it'll be so much fun to fix up. I love your daybed also.
I think I need to have a talk with The Keeper about getting some furniture...wish we had a place as cool as Norm's nearby!

    Love,

  7. Hey Pastel! Thanks! So far, so good. We're painting the ceilings now. Well, Wendy is. She says I can't go near any of this stuff until we find a hard hat for me. See how she is?

Anyway, you definitely need some furniture. If not a whole house. Where's a living doll supposed to LIVE?

It's a bummer if you don't have a local miniatures shop. I'm pretty spoiled getting to hang around Norm's like I do. Different places deal with dolls like us differently. I hope you find somewhere, and if not, Norm's has a webpage and I can help answer questions about stuff.

My daybed is way comfy, I'll have to decide if it's going in the wall house or if I want a real bed. I guess we'll see! Better finish making it first!

  8. Hi Miri,
What a great idea! We have an abundance of tiny couples and a shortage of living spaces for them.(We have had my house for a year and it still doesn't have flooring or wallpaper up.) A mini-house like that might work perfectly. I will have Mama try to find some.

Miranda, your little wall house is adorable! I can't wait to see how you decorate it. It is a thousand times better than sleeping next to an alarm clock!

  10. Hey Cordie! Ooh, it sounds like a little house like this might be just the thing for your couples (and then you could keep your apartment!) If you've got a local miniatures shop, they can probably set you up. If not, we can figure out how much it would cost to mail one of the ones like mine. Just let us know!

Thanks, Bearpicnic! I'm excited to see how it turns out too. And yeah, I really hate that alarm clock.

  12. Hi Miri! I can't wait to see how you decorate your little home away from home! I can't imagine sleeping next to a giant alarm clock that goes off when I want to stay in bed.

  13. I am crazy about that little crochet dress you made - did you get it from a pattern somewhere?

Also, I am hopping over to Norms - TiGGys sisters sooo need some kind of small addition of their own, and I have been thinking of doing it in the two tiered CD holder thing I got from some craft store ages ago, but this bi level has more room for furniture.

Really hard to find something that won't dwarf the cabin, but work in with it somehow

Man, I sooo love having you guys baaaCK!!!

  14. Thank you, Maria. I love my little day bed. It's very comfy as well.

Hi Jen! Me neither! It won't fit a ton of furniture, but I really just need a bed, right? I don't even know what to do with the 2nd room. Just a place to sleep. I'll figure it out. And sleeping next to the giant alarm clock is not fun. I do not recommend it. :)

Hey Tiggy! I'm not sure where the dress came from. The red white and blue one I didn't make, but I think I've worked out the pattern from it and I can make more. I'll write it down the next time I work one up and email it to you!

I don't know if Norm's has the room boxes up on the web page yet, though I told David (the guy who runs the place) that he needs to. So we'll see. I think it's going to be the perfect thing, and now Wendy and I are talking about designing a couple more but with maybe an extra room or two! Perfect for those pixies who need a home, but don't have any space left: Wherever you hang your house, that's home! :) We'll let you know.

And thank you, it's really great to be back. It's sweet of you guys to put up with my babbling. I missed it more than I realized.

  15. Wendy, does the room box come already assembled? I would love to buy one maybe a year from now for my next RealPuki (shhh!). I'd like to get wallpaper and the like for it too, hopefully you can help me pick a to scale wallpaper from Norm's that will look good in such a small space!
